Estonian cleantech startup MarkeDroid has secured €300,000 in bridge funding to scale its AI energy platform across Europe. The Tallinn-based company, which transforms home solar systems into intelligent virtual power plants, will use the capital to strengthen partnerships with energy retailers and grid operators.

The round was led by Estonian Business Angels Network (EstBAN) board member Jana Budkovskaja and angel investor David Clark, with the syndicate contributing €175,000. The funding follows MarkeDroid’s recent win at the Latitude59 pitch competition, where it was selected from 400 startups.

Solving Europe’s distributed energy challenge

Grid operators face a mounting challenge as millions of rooftop solar panels flood residential areas without the infrastructure to manage them. “Grid operators are suddenly dealing with millions of solar panels on rooftops that weren’t designed to communicate with each other,” explains Toomas Teesaar, co-founder and CEO of MarkeDroid.

The company’s cloud-based platform connects household energy assets like solar panels and batteries into a unified network. By using AI to forecast weather patterns and energy prices 24 hours ahead, the system automatically determines the optimal times to buy, sell, or store electricity. Homeowners have reported saving up to 50% on energy costs beyond their existing solar installations.

Expanding across European energy markets

MarkeDroid now operates in 12 European countries and plans to accelerate its expansion with the fresh capital. The funding will support the development of microgrid flexibility projects that allow residential users to participate in wholesale energy markets previously accessible only to large utilities.

The company’s hardware-agnostic approach sets it apart in the energy management sector. Its 10-minute installation process integrates seamlessly with existing solar and battery systems, transforming one-time equipment sales into recurring revenue streams for installers. This positions MarkeDroid at the intersection of Europe’s renewable energy transition and the growing demand for distributed energy resources.

Founded in 2023 by Teesaar and Toomas Kärner, MarkeDroid has now raised a total of €620,000. The startup continues to advance its vision of making grid-scale energy orchestration accessible to everyday homeowners across the continent.
