Cambridge Innovation Capital

● Actively deploying Cambridge, United Kingdom · Founded 2013

Investment thesis

Cambridge Innovation Capital is a Series A venture investor in life sciences and deep tech, with 0.6 billion pounds under management and 0.35 billion invested to date. It works out of Cambridge and draws on a direct relationship with the University of Cambridge for access to research and founders. It has backed more than 45 companies and 125 founders, and says the co-investment it has mobilised exceeds 3.2 billion pounds.

Founded in 2013, Cambridge Innovation Capital invests only in the Cambridge cluster and has a privileged relationship with the University of Cambridge. Its £225M Fund II focuses on Series A rounds in deep tech and life sciences, and in February 2025 it launched a £100M Opportunity Fund, anchored by Aviva Investors and British Patient Capital, to write cheques of up to £20M into later-stage rounds and slow the flight of scale-ups abroad. The firm reports around £600M of assets under management and investments in more than 45 companies that have collectively raised over £3.2bn. Portfolio companies include Pragmatic Semiconductor, Riverlane, Nuclera, Microbiotica and Cambridge GaN Devices; earlier holdings Gyroscope Therapeutics, Inivata and PetMedix were acquired.
