Procuros raises €20M Series A for autonomous B2B trade

Hamburg's Procuros moves more than €3bn in annualised order volume for 300+ retailers and suppliers. Its €20M Series A, led by XAnge, bets that AI agents need trade rails before they need brains.

Procuros, the Hamburg startup replacing legacy EDI with AI-native trade infrastructure, has raised a €20M Series A led by XAnge, joined by W23 Global, Point Nine, Creandum and b2venture.

A €20M bet on the plumbing of trade

The round, announced on Tuesday 6 October, is led by XAnge, the Paris and Berlin based investor, with W23 Global coming in as a new backer and Point Nine, Creandum and b2venture all following on, alongside a group of business angels. The money goes where infrastructure money should: scaling go-to-market, deepening the platform itself and taking the company beyond its DACH and UK base, in the company’s words.

Procuros sits between retailers and their suppliers and automates the documents trade actually runs on – orders, shipping notices, invoices, logistics workflows – across systems that were never designed to talk to each other. No consumer angle, no glossy app. Just the layer every transaction crosses.

“AI agents are only as good as the infrastructure they run on,” says co-founder and CEO Patrick Thelen in the announcement. “Our infrastructure gives retailers, suppliers and AI agents the connectivity and trusted data they need to automate trade.”

Three hundred customers, €3bn in order volume

Patrick Thelen and Benjamin Bradford founded Procuros in Hamburg in the summer of 2021. Five years on, more than 300 companies across DACH and the UK run their trade through the platform, among them Breuninger, Chefs Culinar, KoRo, flaconi, The Quality Group (ESN) and Hitschler – names from fashion, food wholesale and consumer brands rather than tech. The company reports more than €3bn in annualised order volume flowing through the platform, data accuracy above 99% and up to 95% less manual processing (company announcement, 6 October 2026).

Point Nine and Creandum backed the company in its seed years; both returning at the Series A says the investors closest to the numbers wanted more of them.

A $2.31bn market running on a pre-internet standard

EDI – electronic data interchange – is the standard most of this still runs on, and its roots predate the web. The global EDI software market was worth $2.31bn in 2025 and is forecast to reach $6.49bn by 2034, a 12.3% CAGR from 2026, with Europe accounting for roughly $0.46bn in 2025 (Fortune Business Insights, September 2026). A market growing at 12% a year while its core standard ages is exactly where a Series A company wants to stand: big enough to matter, old enough to be rebuilt.

For scale against our own records: Kheops raised €12M in growth funding for retail logistics in late September, and Pandektes closed a €13.5M Series A in Copenhagen this week. At €20M, Procuros lands at the upper edge of the European B2B software Series A rounds in our fundraising data this autumn.

Rails before brains

I keep hearing that AI agents will eat enterprise software. The reality is less cinematic: an agent that cannot read an order confirmation from a thirty-year-old ERP cannot eat anything. The good news is that Europe is quietly strong exactly here – we built SAP, after all, and the unglamorous layers of commerce have long been ours to own.

So what does this round signal? That a share of European capital is moving to the rails agents will need, not just the agents themselves. XAnge leading across its Paris-Berlin axis, with a new name like W23 Global joining the seed backers, suggests conviction that trade infrastructure is where the automation wave lands first. What to watch next: whether Procuros can repeat its DACH density in new markets, and how the legacy EDI providers respond to being rebuilt from underneath.

Europe’s edge was never the demo; it is the dense, regulated, multi-language mess of real trade – and the companies patient enough to wire it. Procuros is laying those rails from Hamburg. Watch that layer!
