Founded in 1992, Archangels is based in Edinburgh and describes itself as the longest continuously operating business angel syndicate in the world. It has over 100 investor members and typically invests more than £10M a year of members’ capital into early-stage Scottish technology and life sciences companies, looking for disruptive technology with protectable IP that competitors cannot easily replicate. In 2025 its activity leveraged £41M of investment into Scottish scale-ups, and it was named Angel Group of the Year at the UK Business Angels Association awards in July 2026. Portfolio companies include Administrate, BioCaptiva, Bioliberty, Earth Blox, Bead Biopharma and 1inhaler.
Investment thesis
Archangels is an Edinburgh business angel syndicate founded in 1992 that invests at early stage in Scottish technology and life sciences companies. It looks for disruptive technology with protectable intellectual property that competitors would struggle to replicate. The syndicate curates opportunities for its members and then stays close to the companies, supporting their development through the early years rather than investing and stepping away.
