OliOil is developing an on-deck oil spill response kit for tankers, cargo ships and ports. A container holds autonomous robotic boats with AI navigation that quickly deploy inflatable booms to stop oil spreading until recovery vessels arrive, with a monitoring system that adapts the response to conditions at sea.
The startup came out of research at LUT University and works with coastguards and oil distribution companies. The technology is patent pending and set for a proof of concept in Wärtsilä’s Zero Emission programme, partly funded by Business Finland. OliOil is based in Turku, Finland, and was founded in 2023.
