Uberbinder is developing a low-carbon binder that can extend or replace bitumen in road construction. It uses inverse vulcanisation, a polymer chemistry process, to turn waste sulphur and natural fatty acids into a binder that cuts CO2 emissions and maintenance costs.
The company works with industry partners and governments so the material can be used without overhauling existing road-building equipment. Uberbinder is based at the Materials Innovation Factory in Liverpool, United Kingdom, was founded in 2019 and raised $1.4M in seed funding.
