Phononic Vibes raises €25 million for lighter noise barriers

Jolt Capital led €25 million into a Politecnico di Milano spin-off whose noise barriers weigh up to 30% less. Europe's acoustic market grows at 3% a year, and 109 million people live inside the noise.

Phononic Vibes, a Milan metamaterials company spun out of Politecnico di Milano, has raised €25 million led by Jolt Capital to sell its lighter noise and vibration products into more countries and more industries.

Jolt Capital leads, 360 Capital exits

The round was announced on 22 October 2026. Jolt Capital led it through Jolt Capital V, a fund the Paris firm says is targeting €1 billion and nearing final close. Eureka! Venture SGR, CDP Venture Capital SGR and Simest SpA came in alongside. The announcement attaches no stage label and calls it a financing round.

Part of the money changes hands between shareholders. Jolt bought the stake 360 Capital had held since the seed round, which its general partner Cesare Maifredi described in the announcement as a successful exit.

Phononic Vibes says the capital goes to scaling its design engine internationally, moving into new applications, strengthening delivery, and targeted acquisitions that add industrial capability.

Forty product lines out of a Politecnico spin-off

Luca D’Alessandro, Giovanni Capellari and Stefano Caverni founded Phononic Vibes in 2018. Metamaterials use geometry where noise control has always used mass. A structure tuned to the frequencies it has to absorb does the work a heavier slab used to do, and the company says that buys up to 30% less weight at the same acoustic performance, or better performance at the same weight, out of a proprietary design engine it says is covered by 18 patent families.

The catalog now runs past 40 product lines: barriers including the transparent MetaWindow, enclosures and cabins, silencers, ground-vibration modules, firewall insulation for vehicles. The company lists more than 100 people on its site and manufactures in Italy.

Weight is a cost question before it is an engineering one. A lighter barrier needs smaller foundations, lighter gantries and fewer hours on site, which is the reason the contractors Webuild and Eteria give for choosing them. Deutsche Bahn has certified the company’s transparent barrier for the German rail network, and Mercedes-Benz has the technology in series production. “Weight has always been the price of quiet,” D’Alessandro said in the announcement.

The company reports revenue doubling every year since 2018 and break-even in 2025. Those are its own figures. Its previous round, €2.3 million, was announced in 2020.

A 3% market with 109 million people inside it

Europe’s acoustic insulation market was worth $6.40 billion in 2025 and is forecast to reach $7.42 billion by 2030, a 3.0% CAGR (MarketsandMarkets, December 2025). Three percent a year is flat by venture standards, and a company selling into it grows by taking share.

The pressure sits in the regulation. The European Environment Agency puts about 109 million people, more than 20% of Europe’s population, in long-term exposure to unhealthy transport noise in its 2022 mapping round (EEA, October 2025). The EU’s zero-pollution ambition commits to cutting the share of people chronically disturbed by transport noise 30% by 2030, against a 2017 baseline. The good news for anyone selling lighter barriers is that those two numbers together describe a buyer with a deadline and a slow market. Share has to come from somewhere.

On scale, €25 million is a serious European materials round. In our own records, iGii took £22.7 million at Series B in September 2026 and Ambio €5.1 million at seed in October. The rest sit on the advanced materials funding desk and in our fundraising data.

Italian deeptech with a factory attached

What we are seeing here is a kind of European company we celebrate too rarely: a lab spin-off that spent eight years turning physics into certified product, kept its manufacturing in Italy, and reached break-even before it raised growth money. The proof points in this round are a Deutsche Bahn certification and a part in a production Mercedes. Certification is what keeps a competitor out of this business, and earning it takes years that nobody writes about.

The second signal is who paid. Jolt Capital V is a growth fund targeting €1 billion, and CDP Venture Capital and Simest are Italian state-backed vehicles. Italy’s deeptech bottleneck has sat in the step from spin-off to industrial company, financed at home. Politecnico produces the research reliably enough. A European growth fund of that size and two state vehicles in the same round is what financing that step looks like without a buyer from outside Europe in the middle.

The third is the exit. 360 Capital held since the seed and sold to the incoming lead, and secondaries at this size are how a European seed fund returns capital while a listing stays years away. We expect to see more of them.

Watch the acquisitions. A company whose product is a design method plus a factory grows by buying more factories, and the next twelve months will say whether an Italian spin-off can consolidate noise control across Europe. Europe has the noise problem, the regulation, the research and now the capital sitting in the same place. Let’s see what gets built with it.
