Do AI agents actually replace headcount, or just augment it?
Where we land: Both are true in different workflows. Replacement is real in high-volume, low-judgment tasks; augmentation is what happens everywhere judgment still matters – and most vendors blur the two in their marketing.
Is the agent layer defensible, or does it get absorbed by the model labs?
Where we land: The orchestration-only layer is genuinely exposed. Companies that have built a data or integration moat around a specific workflow are not – which is why so much of the disclosed capital on this desk goes to vertical, not horizontal, agents.
Can Europe build a category leader, or does US capital and distribution always win this layer?
Where we land: Building happens in Europe; scaling increasingly does not stay here alone. The realistic ambition is European R&D and cap-table anchoring with US go-to-market from day one, not full relocation.

Frequently asked
About this vertical and how we cover it
Is this the same as the AI infrastructure vertical?
No – AI infrastructure covers foundation models, chips and compute. This vertical is the application layer built on top of those models, doing a specific job.
Why are only 4 investors verified out of 35 tagged?
Every fund shown on the investor desk has a disclosed ticket range or fund size we can verify directly. The remaining 31 carry the vertical tag but have not yet published enough data to rank honestly.
How often does this page change?
The numbers come from the four desks and move weekly. The written analysis is reviewed quarterly and the review date at the top is the honest one – if it is stale, the analysis is stale.
Can I suggest a company or fund for the desks?
Yes. Use the suggest links on each desk. We verify before publishing; paid placement does not get you onto a ranking or directory.
