Belfort Labs builds technology that lets companies process data while it stays encrypted. Today, data has to be decrypted before software can work on it, which exposes it at the moment it is used. Belfort’s approach removes that step: calculations run directly on encrypted data and the result is only readable by its owner.
The company is a spin-off from COSIC, the computer security and industrial cryptography group at KU Leuven in Belgium. It develops a hardware accelerator, custom chips and algorithms that make fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) fast enough for real workloads. Its offer combines usage-based software, hardware sales and integration support for sectors that handle sensitive data, such as finance, healthcare and national security.
In 2025 Belfort raised a $6M seed round from investors including Inovia Capital, Vsquared Ventures and Protocol VC, alongside angels such as Jeff Dean and Naval Ravikant. The company was founded in 2023, is based near Leuven and also has a presence in San Francisco.
