What counts as edtech here

Any company building software for learning, teaching or upskilling – K-12 and higher-education platforms, medical and professional education, corporate learning and coaching, and edtech infrastructure. Several companies here also carry a second vertical: AMBOSS is medical education and digital health at once, Didask and Wooclap serve public-sector training and carry the Govtech tag, and Ornikar teaches driving and carries Automotive and EV. Edtech on Sesamers is defined by the learning outcome, not the buyer – consumer, enterprise or government.

The debate

One question the data raises directly – with a verdict

Is edtech's biggest opportunity now K-12 and higher ed, or corporate upskilling?

Three of the six rounds on the funding desk – CoachHub, Wooclap, Didask – serve corporate or professional training rather than schools. Brighteye Ventures, the vertical's one dedicated fund, explicitly frames its thesis around work rather than school: helping people "learn, work and adapt continuously." Meanwhile Ed.ai, this month's fresh round, targets K-12 classrooms directly.

The case forCorporate learning has a clearer buyer with budget and urgency – AI is reshaping jobs faster than curricula, and enterprises pay promptly for tools that keep staff current. CoachHub's €67.7M Series B, the largest round on this desk, reflects that appetite.
The case againstSchool and university systems represent a much larger, more durable market once a product is embedded – and AI-native tools like Ed.ai that help teachers personalise instruction address a problem (teacher time, not just student outcomes) that corporate learning does not face in the same way.
Where we land: The data doesn't resolve this cleanly, and that's the honest finding: European edtech capital is genuinely split between the two markets rather than concentrated in one. Founders should read the specific buyer they are targeting, not the category label – a company selling into corporate L&D and one selling into K-12 classrooms are pitching different investors, attending different events, and facing different sales cycles even though Sesamers tags them both edtech.
